I've finished making the top for the "Stepping Stones" auction top. I'm trying something new by adding letters to the edge. It says "Walking with God = Peace".
The letters and the circles are all fused to the top right now. My question - should I stitch them down before I make the quilt sandwich? I think I'll straight line quilt as a nice contrast to the circles.
I also finished my Ticker Tape quilt!!!! It's all washed and soft. But I'm out of light, so just a small picture for now. The auction is in a week. I'm beyond happy that it's done in plenty of time!

if you aren't going to quilt over the circles, I would tack then down - but I bet they'd be fine otherwise...
I'm curious on the answer to your question. I've never done that before and I'm wondering the same thing. Your ticker tape quilt looks huge all rolled up, how big is it?

I agree with Michelle. If you're going to quilt around the edge, that will tack it down, but if you aren't, I would tack them down before you quilt.
My vote is w/Michelle & Kris.
Oh...I can tell that the ticker tape is a beauty! I am surprised that your arms aren't aching after quitling that one.
Waiting to see the result.....:0)
I third, or fourth the previous vote. They both look fantastic!
Congrats on the vintage sheet giveaway!!!!!
It depends on what look you want and of course how much quilting you'll be doing. There are a couple of ways of stitching them done. 1. Sandwich the quilt, then raw edge applique the pieces which also works as quilting, the plus to this is that they are held down well while you machine quilt. 2. Applique the pieces to the quilt top before you sandwich.3. Leave it as is, and quilt all over.
I would probably stitch down the applique first then do the straight line quilting. But it's not the end of the work if you don't. Looks great. And I can't wait to see the ticker tape quilt! I'm having a giveaway over at my blog. Picking a winner Friday, the 12th! C'mon over and leave a comment if you want.
Angela, I would stitch these down before you quilt it. Stitching the letters and then quilting them down will help them stand up to washings as well as everyday wear and tear. Unless this is a wall-hanging that is not ever to be "handled", it simply won't stand up to "life" as quilt that is used and loved. It is a small amount of work for a big pay off. Good luck.
Fantastic, love the binding the contrast of the blue and white is fantastic!!!
I'd stitch them down first too.
The fusible webbing won't last long after the quilt is washed.
Hope that helps,
Andi :-)
I've just found your blog (link off of Don't call me Becky...congratulations!!) and I just love the stuff you've been working on! I've added you to my reader..so I'll be back!
I agree with Shelly. I don't think I would be as worried aboutn the circles, but I would sew down the edges of the letters.
BTW.. LOVE it! This is another beauty!
Happy birthday!!
oh Angela this looks great!! i love the words you put on it. And that ticker tape is amazing. i can not wait to see more pictures
both of these quilts look great! The ticker tape quilt is such a nice alternative to the typical auction quilts.
Your fabric went out in the mail on Saturday...hopefully you'll get everything by the end of this week
