Ticker Tape Parade!!!!

I present the "Ticker Tape Parade" - a collaborative quilt by myself and the 5th graders - 62" square now that it's washed, crinkly, and soft! This quilt will auction at the Home and School adult social.

All the kids had a 5" square to create, and I ironed it down to get them home (Heat-n-bond on all the bits). This of course was all inspired by Amanda Jean's awesome Ticker Tape quilt. The kids' blocks were all pieced together with Kona Ash solid blocks.

Then I stippled the solids and raw edge quilted the kids' creations. I did all the squares free motion - it kept me from having to shove the quilt through four ways for every little bit. And there were a LOT of bits. I estimate there were at least 600 little pieces!

There was one spot left, so I made a block with the school year and name. All the blocks have the children's names on them. (Can you tell I had light issues?! I had the worst time even getting things to work with photoshop.)

I chose a busy print on the lighter side for the back - you can hardly see all the strange quilting and stop/starts on this print.

My neighbor is another 5th grade mom and will be at the auction. She's planning on bidding and said she'll call with the end amount. I'm interested to see what it goes for. It was a cool project and the kids loved doing it!

Another thing to celebrate - today is my birthday! I came up with the best idea last night....since I LOVE the Olympics and also want to sew, I set up a temporary table right in front of the TV.

I plan on quilting and watching Snowcross all day today. Until that starts, I'm happy with Gordon and BBCAmerica!

Finally, for making it all the way to the end of my big party today, I have some extra Kei dots to give away. Tell me what your favorite winter Olympic sport is and I'll randomly pick a winner Tuesday night. Until then you'll find me in my sweats with my hair in a headband enjoying my birthday!

Happy Birthday! The quilt turned out wonderfully - I absolutely love it (and have tucked the idea away for the future).

My favourite winter olympic sport is long-track speed skating. I think those athletes are so graceful with their long strides.

I live in the heart of it all here in Vancouver and these last few days have been nothing short of incredible. LOVING the atmosphere and energy here.

Happy Happy Birthday!!

Your day sounds much like my day on Saturday...just sit, sew, watch Olympics (or whatever else is on), iron, and sew! Hope you are rather productive on your day!

Also, may favorite winter Olympic sport is the snowboarding, really the half pipe, but any snowboarding will do!

Always,
Katy

Happy Birthday! Yay! for February birthdays (mine is 8 days & counting) - what a great way to spend the day! As for fav sport, I'm not sure. I've been achy just watching the moguls, and of course, figure skating is always good. Curling is fun to watch (and the grunting, yelling, etc etc just cracks me up)...and the Dutch speed skating fans are super fun... and anything that involves flying down mountains or ice tracks scares the bejebus out of me, so mucho admiration goes out to them.

Wait...what was the question again?? :-p

Oh, and I would totally bid on that quilt...ya know, if I could! Great work :)

Happy birthday to you!

The quilt is incredible, both in concept and in execution. I love, love, LOVE it.

I have an almost morbid fascination with short-track speedskating. It terrifies me, but I can't look away. :-)

I need to remember this quilt for when my son and future kiddos are school-aged! It really is so cute. :)

My favorite sport... either figure skating or the freestyle snowboarding.

I did the same thing, set up a sewing station in front of the TV! I'm not much a sports viewer except for the Olympics, and I get TOTALLY sucked in!

My fave event is probably downhill or ski-jumping. Let's go with downhill.

Pick me, please, those Kei dots are SO my colors!

Favorite olympic sport: curling. It's completely whacky. My theory is that bored housewives with teakettles made this up one winter.

I love the quilt. What a great project for the kids' class. I'd love to do this with my son's class...maybe when they are a little older.

Happy birthday!

My favourite Winter Olympic sport is speed-skating. It’s the sport we have lots of athletes taking part. Due to the time difference we have to stay up late to watch the games, but it’s always a wonderful event!

congrats on a GREAT quilt project! It's fun and bright, and I love the variety in the kid's blocks.

Happy Birthday too, and enjoy your sewing/Olympics celebration!

My favorite is speed skating-but the snowboard cross was pretty cool too-not easy to predict who was going to win as they changed it up!!
