I usually just do the digital picture and then put it on my lap top. That way I am saving ink and I have a copy I can take with me anywhere. Thank you!
I love my digital camera! Not only is it handy to record how something goes together, but it also helps me catch mistakes and "hot spots" that just don't work!!
I do both a camera picture - for visual reference, and I write the number on the back of the pieces and stack them from left to right by row. Each row gets pinned together w/a straight pin in the top right corner (if the direction matters). I put my stacked rows from bottom to top. I find a digital picture is helpful for the overall visual effect (so I don't have to re-lay it out when I want to look @ it) - but can take too much time when trying to match the pieces to the picture ....
if i remember, i'll take a picture and look at it if needed. but i usually lay it out, then start pinning blocks into rows and stack. my stack sometimes gets a little messed up when pressing, so when that happens, i lay it back out again as rows.
Great idea! I usually lay everything out on the bed in order and try to methodically piece it together but now that my quilts are getting bigger and bigger it's getting more and more difficult to keep everything straight.
what a good idea... i have often thought that this would help me when i am in the middle of arranging a project, but for some reason i never do it. why? because it is so easy
I usually lay them all out on the floor (because I still haven't figured out a great place for a design wall) and then quickly sew them up so the kids don't mess them up! But I usually put it off as long as possible because it's a pain. I LOVE your idea. Thanks!
I do the same thing!! But I'm usually not coordinated enough to print it out - just sit with my phone by the sewing machine and keep refreshing the picture.

I take pictures too. It's just easier to keep track of what's going on.
