Spray Baste It Baby!

First, thank you for all the kind words for Portia.  She certainly wasn't running around the house and barking, but the house is strangely quite now that she is gone.

That's saying something, as there are still three boys in the house that are getting to the end of summer vacation and will argue about ANYTHING.   Which muscle is the strongest (tongue or heart), if you put dry ice on your arm would it freeze your skin from the outside or burn you from the inside, and would you classify Black Jack as a type of poker or is it a game unto itself.  All earth shattering topics - debated endlessly - with no resolution even with internet found facts.  I think that dry ice thing has been going on for at least a week and a half now.

High Dive!

We did have some fun Tuesday watching Becket try out the high dive, though.  And finish up swim lessons.

Blue Popsicle

I have a couple quilts ready for binding as we travel, and I was super excited with trying all kinds of new stuff on them.  For the batting I actually used up some scraps by joining two pieces.  It worked so well!

Ready to bind

And I think I have ditched the pins forever.  All the cool kids are using spray baste, I had some stashed away that was bought with a JoAnn's coupon, and finally decided to give it a try.

spray basted

LOVED it.  Not a single pucker, which was my biggest worry.  And it didn't seem too messy.

I hate the whole basting process, which is probably why I have so many tops just waiting to be quilted.  This took so much less time and I loved not having to unpin while stippling.  I also ordered some 505 that just arrived.  I'll try it next and compare!

Hmmm, never tried spray... but I love the idea of not having to move pins as I quilt. I'm going to have to try it.

Please do let us know what you like best. I have a couple quilts too waiting to be quilted because I didn't want to pin them!

I've never tried spray but you've almost convinced me! Can it be sprayed inside? Let me know what you think of 505.

To be honest I never pinned a quilt... LOL. But I am also a relative new quilter. I have only used the 505 and I think it works fine.

I heart 505 spray basting! It sticks amazingly well (and allows repositioning to some degree), washes out after use and doesn't seem to gum up my needle. It really works and is a LOT easier than pin basting!

Ooooh, let us know! I've been wanting to try this and never have. I also dislike the pins. Beautiful photos too!!

I just switched to spray basting, and love it. I had the bad habit of sewing through safety pins, and now it's like eliminating a whole step!

Shoot, I guess I need to give the spray another try!

I've always wanted to try but I keep hearing about the needle getting sticky etc... did you have any trouble with that?

Spray basting works fine for me if the project isn't too large. [I have limited space to lay it out]. When I used to have a big empty wall available, I would tape the top edge of backing to wall and lightly spray... pat the batting on, lightly spray again, lay and pat the top on. Works like a charm and never a pucker. I like having 'gravity' help me out! lol.
Nice blog...

ps: I prefer 505 as it doesn't sticky up my needle. /;-)

Spray baste! Love it! I have always used 505 and cannot locate some currently, must order. I should look at JoAnn's...

maybe I need to do some checking... I wonder if I'm allergic to that stuff. :) It seems wonderful!

Love me my spray baste! I like 505 but it is hard to find and I like Sulky just as well and it is available at HL (40% coupon). Both of these are SOOOO much better than dritz IMO, interested to see what you think.

I just recently discovered spray basting as well! I hear a lot of people say they like if they're doing small projects, but no the big ones. I especially like it on the big projects! The two hours saved from not having to pin to so worth it, and I've not had any trouble with sticky needles.

I have used spray baste before and love it. I have just quilteed three quilts and used pins. I hated every second of it. LOL!! I should have used the spray. I can't wait to see what you decide.

I LOVE using spray basting. The best part is the glue stuff comes out in the laundry so you cant even tell the difference between spray basting and pins. Keep up the great work!

I just tried spray basting a few months ago (after quilting for 10 years) I don't think I will go back. I wasn't sure if it would really stick or if it did, would it gum up the machine? But all good so far. I don't think I will go back.

I love spray baste, be careful with some of the bottles you get at JoAnns. I have had a couple defective nozzles that dripped on the fabric and stained it. I tried everything to get it out. But yes, I still love it!
